For millions of Indians, the fundamental dignity in walking and working on one's own has been taken away - by disease, by tragedy, by accident or by birth. One organization is helping to restore that dignity. Manav Seva Sannidhi's rehabilitation camps welcome destitute amputees from around the country, sheltering them, feeding them, lending them support and friendship. Free of charge, patients are given prostheses and all the rehabilitation they need to return to a life of self-sufficiency and pride.
This is Ms. Abhilasha Singhvi's vision, which, over the course of 24 years, has guided her to help more than 50,000 of India's most needy. Humbly, she and her dedicated team of volunteers (most of them past beneficiaries of the camps) have adopted for themselves the ascetic and austere commitment to the cause of the disabled who have been marginalized.
Living truly up to the spirit and meaning of Sannidhi, the camps have become occasions where the spirit of togetherness pervades everywhere in the presence of divinity.
